Slurry Seal
Slurry seal, combination of emulsified asphalt, coarse aggregate, mineral filler and water is mixed in a specially designed machine and placed directly on asphalt streets, highways and parking lots to substantially increase their life expectancy.
Slurry seal is applied through a spreader box that can be adjusted for variable widths to allow for proper jointing.
The mixture is generally applied about 3/8 inch thick and will extend the useful life of an asphalt pavement up to 10 years before reapplication.
Microsurfacing
Microsurfacing is a more durable form of slurry seal using a polymer modified asphalt emulsion for the binder. The polymer modifies the binder to provide a less brittle surface and a faster set time. Microsurfacing can be applied at greater thicknesses than conventional slurry seals thereby providing a more durable and longer lasting surface. Micrsosurfacing is a perfect application for collector streets as well as state and interstate highways.
Advantages of slurry seal and microsurfacing:
- Low cost and ease of installation.
- Rapid set materials allow for quick restoration of traffic.
- Protects pavements from oxidation and the intrusion of water and harmful chemicals.
- Improves skid resistance.
- Can be applied to pavements without the need for tack coating or rolling.
- Aesthetic value-results in a rich and black uniform pavement with a uniform texture.
- Energy conservation-does not need to be heated and is applied at thinner rates than thin overlays.
